CURRENT INFORMATION AND DIRECTIVES

For ALL Cattle Producers affected by IMPENDING FLOODING THEATS:

CLICK HERE FOR URGENT PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT!

PLEASE TAKE NOTE:  An emergency call centre has been set up by MAFRI.  Please see #2 below for contact information and hours of operation.

MBP is to be the first point of contact to assist ONLY with the 3 bullets listed under #1 below.

This is intended to streamline the process for matching producers with needed pasture land/cattle boarding and to receive data as to number of head moved, etc.  The 3 outlined steps listed under #2 below must be adhered to as a first course of action.  Please take note of both points below.

1)  MBP will assist producers with the following:

a.  If you have an immediate situation or call to evacuation.

Please also advise our office of the number of head that require evacuation.

b.  If you are in need of available pasture land or cattle boarding.

MBP is now the first point of contact for producers to advise of available pastureland.  Our office therefore will be compiling the most recent master list of available pasture land and/or cattle boarding locations.  We will be updating MAFRI/GO offices daily with this information.

c.  If you have suffered livestock losses due to the recent storm.

2)  Producers must still take the following steps in the order outlined:

a)  Contact your local RM as a first course of action.

b)  Contact your MAFRI office and/or local Go Centre.

An Emergency Command Centre (MAFRI – EOC Call Centre) has been set up to deal with any animal welfare issues; the moving of cattle and the need for feed.  Producers should contact the numbers below with immediate concerns relating to feed availability and animal movement.  Producers with available pasture or feed can contact their MAFRI GO office during normal business hours.

Contact # 945-7200 or 1-855-679-3802

Hours of Operation (INCLUDES weekends and holidays) until further notice:

7:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. (07:00 – 21:00)

2011 Flood Contacts for Manitoba Livestock Producers / Website Links

c)  Contact DFA to fill out assistance forms immediately.  Please ensure detailed documentation of every activity related to your evacuation process is recorded.

Contact #  945-3050

3)  Due to this urgent call for evacuation of cattle in those areas surrounding Lake Manitoba, it is of great urgency to find available pasture, feed or places to hold cattle for both the short and long term.  Therefore, a list of producers that have pasture available and which can be utilized for the summer is needed.  Please contact the Teulon GO Centre at 886-2696 or the Manitoba Beef Producers office at 772-4542 or toll free at 800-772-0458 to advise of any known pasture land available so that this information can be linked to existing listing and so a current list can be provided.  A special bulletin to the leasers of crown lands:  You now have the ability to sublet to producers in need of pasture land.  Please contact our office immediately so that we can assist and direct you in this process.

In addition to the available pasture land, we also need:

1)  An approximate of how many pairs and yearlings can be placed at that location.

2)  Feed availability to be used to feed these cattle in the event they are held there for a period of time (i.e., either a general amount of feed for sale in an area or specific lots of feed for sale).

3)  Producer contact information and an indication of whether the producer is able or willing to look after or care for these cattle while they remain on their land.

Please provide any location that can accept and hold cattle for a period of time, even should there not be sufficient pasture for the cattle to remain for the season.

 4)  MBP is also asking all producers, either in the evacuation process or in any way affected by the current flooding crisis, to please ensure that all actions taken with regard to your situation are thoroughly documented (photos inclusive if possible). We appeal also to those producers in circumstances where ‘neighbours are assisting neighbours’, etc. This is of critical importance. Through the availability of stats, data and other required details, MBP can go to work on your behalf for the fairest level of coverage and compensation. If you have already moved cattle, please contact our office with that information.

As a matter of urgency, it is required that you take immediate action to have your cattle evacuated from the flood zone areas as soon as possible.  The following steps should be taken and further instruction and/or provision of potential resources will be made once you make the following contacts.

MBP will continue to work closely with the Province and has been given the commitment of  the Minister of Agriculture that every effort is being made and every barrier removed for the successful evacuation, transportation and feed provision of cattle in the event areas.  Minister Struthers has provided every assurance that producers will be treated fairly with regard to damage assessment, program implementation and compensation with the additional commitment to move forward swiftly.
