The MCPA has established a wholly-owned subsidiary “the Manitoba Livestock Cash Advance Inc. (MLCA)” to administer the federal government’s Advance Payment Program (APP) for livestock.

The APP for livestock is a financial loan guarantee program that will provide cash advances for producers, helping them to access cash flow when they need it the most. The cash advance program will also give producers the flexibility to sell their products when market conditions are favourable. Interested producers must belong to the CAIS program.

According to information from the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) APP website, producers can receive a cash advance on up to 50% of the expected average market price of the agricultural product or commodity. Livestock is not eligible once it has been sent for slaughter. Animals that are or were used as breeding animals or are under supply management are not eligible.” The maximum limit on cash advances is $400,000, of which $100,000 is interest-free.

APP applications are now available at their website www.manitobalivestock.com or by calling toll free 866 869-4008 or in Winnipeg at 774-1140. Ask them about the two options available, Standard 1st month and Continuous Flow.
